SpotOn3D or PutOff3D??
Well I know I can get things wrong, but...this is my first impressions of Veesome, the grid that has an economy, seemingly.....I would say the only competitor to InWorldz, but it isn't ....a competitor, that is.
I know that there aren't any rules as to how you build, maintain and design a grid, but if there were...this would be my first...
1) Don't make default skin and shapes NO MOD!!
It means that I am trapped as Ruth, or, in this case more like Barbie. Now I can take looking like I have a Bad Hair Day, I can just about put up with a Fake Tan Look, but the breast implants and the Vertically Challenged avi is not for me... she is a Ruth....
Now, IF I upgrade to Premium Membership at 3$ per month then I can maybe check out what skins are for sale on the marketplace, some of which maybe Mod....but searching gave me no results (mature pages), I guess I might be a sexually aroused pre-teen getting their rocks off on the Veesome marketplace, but this is so unlikely as to be laughable when Google will show anyone anything.....
Anyway, if I did chose to pay 3$ per month, then I could pay another 2$ or so to be non-Ruthed...but...
Do I want to??
Why would I??
Seems to me that paying upfront for an empty grid is not really something I'm gonna risk....and may be why they have cut their prices on land.
At 40US$ for 5000 prims that makes it about 500% more expensive per prim that InWorldz, tho still much cheaper than SL...well...everywhere is cheaper than SL.... but really...what are you gonna do with just 5000 prims...the place is gonna look crap. You can buy a sim with 15k prims, which would look better, now reduced to $60, but that's not cheap either....not compared to IWz.
Now, as a sweetener, you can apparently have your sim moved around the place from business district to whatever.... and it seems like you can get a Cloud Coverage deal whereby you can increase your Avi population for events, which sounds good.
I think it is the cloud thingy that has got Thoth interested for he has opened a club here... called Area54... (no gap, or you'll never find it...)
The thing is tho.... the first thing you need on a grid is the content creators, for free..... it's a must. ....and most of em won't wanna look like Barbie/Ruth...it'll annoy the bejesus out of em....
. ..so make the default avis MOD, PLEASE...
Anyway, not wishing to be unfair, I went back for a second time, I guess I hate to be beat....and I try not to be unfair.......anyway...searching thro 30 or so "default" Ruths....I eventually found one Male skin that was mod, and one female shape with huge breasts.....
....a gruesome meesome....
So, as I wasn't on Imprudence I punched in all the numbers and eventually looked more like me....a sort of VeeSome Meesome.. and immediately I felt better about life the universe and everything...
...even VeeSome...
I can be sooo impatient...
:))

hmm, must say, I have never been ruthed in Veesome, or seen anyone who was... and the default avie IS mod... and you have free unlimited uploads, which if you like to make stuffs (and make a lot of mistakes, like me)is well worth the price of a grande vanilla once a month, ... hehe you're just an inworldz junkie, soror
ReplyDeletewell, sor - i hope u make it over once more and can check other things out. mostly, i like it there cuz there's like zero lag (even without the cloud thing, i've had about 15-20 avs in one place and it's still smooth), it's pretty stable (i hardly ever crash there and don't lose things), and a few other reasons. i been to all the 'top grids', and performance-wise, i like veesome most - by a lot. there's other things, and all the various grids have different things to offer, and a lot are oriented towards different directions, too (e.g. ReactionGrid towards education, etc.). I'd like to see all of them do well - no one grid can be all for everyone, and we 'metaverse mobile' peeps do need more than one place to flit between, don't we? ;o)
ReplyDeleteThe 2.99 thing is mainly a barrier to griefers, and it works (u can visit and hang around on the free account, but u can't rez stuff, etc.). some ppl like it, some don't. it doesn't really bother me, personally, though.
Anyway, maybe see u there for the concert and i'll show u around before or after...
hehheehe....Yep, could be, Thirza.
ReplyDeleteI must say that if the possibility of having larger crowds in one place is a reality, it will do well. A venue capable of holding events is definitely one thing we need and, now, I can pop over any time.;))
vertically challenged -_-
ReplyDeletego play with giants, beanstalk :P
i'm gonna want to go to a grid to build. and i'm gonna want to do that for free. and i'm gonna want to do that with the freedom of choosing my own viewer and building my own appearance. i can't do that at veesome/spoton3d. the transparent attempt to capture revenue by claiming that it will "thwart griefers" does not impress me. veesome justifies all of this with the specious argument that they are protecting IP rights (in exchange for these freedoms.) other grids offer a better deal frankly. my two cents.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to tell about stability until everyone is wearing an AO and the average avatar has 10 - 30 scripts attached.
ReplyDeleteI'll also mention that the work Im doing right now in the month of November is to directly tackle the stability problem with a lot of AVs on a region starting at the lowest level.
Stay tuned :)
Excellent, Tranq, I'm already enjoying my fps (50) and other perks... keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteHey Soror .... tessa here, one of the owners of SpotON3D and Veesome grids.
ReplyDeleteYou can certainly shop without upgrading your account to premium. All you have to do is bring in money via your paypal account, then shop on the SpotONSynergy.com site or in our many micro-store locations throughout the grid. To unpack the box you simply wear it. Yeah .... I know! a real DUH moment probably. Took a guy to point that out to us. :P He SWEARS he never played in a gurl avatar ... yeah yeah ... shor shor buddy. *giggles*
Also, if you'd have looked in your inventory you would have seen gobs and gobs of avatar choice in a folder called DEFAULT AVATARS. We are checking to make sure all the avatars' hair, shapes and such are modiable. They should be, and I apologize for troubles.
@ Tranquility - If you'd like to see how well our almost 150 region grid runs with tons of scripts and a prim banged sim performs, just come in and check out Oak and Hickory - the home for our GOGREEN Virtual Offices. each one has about 12 scripts running them and there are 30 programmed offices in each sim plus voice. When we offically launch the BizGrid, hopefully by the end of the year, we'll be putting these on a dedicated high powered server to ensure it has all the overhead it needs to get peek performance. And you'll also notice that these sims carry about 22,000 prims on the. Used to be in 30K range, but we found it behaved very unstable, so worked hard to edit down and we'l continue to do that more as we get meshes in first of next year.
And Lastly WIZZY ... *sigh* My wonderful problem child who wants all the latest and greatest for nada ... *smiles* I'm sorry hun, but that's just not possible. Reality is that the free for nothing days are fast becoming a FREEMium scenerio, where you get enough functionality to kick the tires, but not enough to replace having a full functional membership. Why? Cause this stuff does not grow on trees. We aren't working with people who live in their parent's basement, or are on disability so have tons of time on their hands. Our guys are professionals and they deserve much much more than we pay them, but we doooo pay them. That takes money. We didn't get to be the more stable grid that runs 150 regions on just 2 servers by playing at this. We haven't been griefed since we opened for beta testers August 2009. And trust me - there are tons of folks that I am sure would love to cause of grief, due to our stand on content protection - technoHippies- free love, free sex, free content- really are not fond of us. *-) But that's ok. This isn't a popularity contest. Its about giving those who see a value in supporting their grid with a tiny $2.99/mth fee, great value back and I KNOW we do that in spades.
BTW ... for everyone. We've donated a 9 region MegaSim to the sci-fi group, InterSpace3d.com, founded by Nigma Sterling in SL, one of the oldies from 2004 I think. We've also got physics running and the boys are really chomping at the bit to build the first fly ships and get them running all over those 9 sims without any region lines and air space up to 10,000 meters in the sky. We'll be doing a tryout on a new type membership for this grid that lets you have a 40x40 (1,600 sqm) parcel with 732 prims and a premium membership for under 10 bucks. If anyone's interested in joining in the fun there's just a few simple rules - treat everyone with respect, build with a good heart and an eye for longevity, cause these builds are like our donation of the land, a part of the community and designed to stay for the community, and lastly, play with your scripts in the designated areas.

ReplyDeleteWe aren't working with people who live in their parent's basement, or are on disability so have tons of time on their hands. Our guys are professionals with great day jobs who work like dogs with us on thier off hours, or work full time. None of us make even a quarter of what we should be paid for this work, but we love it. But PAY THEM we do and that takes money.

But really Wiz. You don't need us. You've got your own server if I remember correctly. Not sure why you are so fixated on our grid when you've got a great self serve one all your own? Anyways - This isn't a popularity contest. Its about giving those who see a value in supporting their grid with a tiny $2.99/mth fee, great value back and I KNOW we do that in spades.

As far as your insistence that our $2.99/mth fee is bogus, well the proof is in the pudding. We've not even been griefed and we've been open to for anyone to come in since 8/2009. How many opensim grids can say that?
But really Wiz. You don't need us. You've got your own server if I remember correctly. Not sure why you are so fixated on our grid when you've got a great self serve one all your own? I'm sorry if it doesn't appeal to you, but that's ok. We don't expect anyone can make everyone happy. That's why we embrace the whole metaverse and even help promote them through GRIDwrap show we do with MetaverseTV. If anyone has someone worth of coming on, holler at me and I'll arrange it - Heck - we had InWorldz on the show not long ago *-) Tessa

hehe. your resorting to the heinous stereotype of residents "who live in their parent's basement, or are on disability so have tons of time on their hands" doesn't sit well with me. i will be interested to see if your $2.99 bargain basement business model will work. my point is that the model is already established as a free one. As we all know, the standard is already set with Second Life. Most internet sites are free to visit, even Porn. The idea being that the revenue stream will come as a by-product of the traffic. my point is that your competition is free to the user. most of the open sims are free zones. Inworldz seems to be your biggest competition at the moment and is the same model as Second Life. I can go to Inworldz, use virtually any viewer I prefer, and I can build anywhere that I can find build rights. their business model is simply to try to do Second Life better, and cheaper for the user. that sounds like the right approach to me. and yes, i have my own server on my hard drive. that is the way the technology is evolving at the moment, what with sims on a USB stick and hypergrid hopping from compatible grid to grid. i wish you the best of luck. Spoton3D is just not for me.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tessa for taking the time to write.
ReplyDeleteI am very happy that you are looking into making skins and shapes, at least, on default avatars into Mod. that is normally how people deal with things, if they have the ability, and a great help in making Me into Me.
The problem I had with shopping was that as I was not allowed to view Adult content, I couldn't see any skins....maybe there were none, or maybe that is just censorship gone a little too far...
As far as pricing goes...well, we all do what we think is correct on pricing and only the market will tell.
I wish you luck, I will certainly pop in again.
The reason you couldn't view adult content was because a FREE4EVER account doesn't give our users access to mature/adult content. This is to ensure that children aren't able to have access to mature and/or adult venues and experiences - something I'd hope you'd support. The only way to verify age with any reasonable measure someone's age without asking people to submit their driver's license or national ID is to use some existing system that already has that information verified, thus why we use PayPal.
ReplyDeleteIf our industry is to evolve we have to recognize that we don't have the ability to control who comes into virtual worlds and the 3D web. We can't say these environments are only for adults, play, fun and games and then throw caution and reasonable boundaries to the wind. If this is to evolve to its full capacity we have to find ways to enable all the communities that are coming to the 3d Web to co-exist in some reasonable and responsible manner. That means giving adults their space and making it far more unlikely that kids can access it. That means making spaces for g-rated users, businesses and education that meets their needs. We've seen what happens when you throw everyone into the same pot and tell them to play nice. It simply doesn't work because they have different requirements, goals and needs. But, having said that, you don't disconnect them either. That's why I've personally been promoting the idea that there is not one grid for everyone, no one company that can own the 3d web or virtual worlds, no one entity that can bring them together.
From Tessa...the following comment got edited by Blogspot because of it's length, so I have cut it into two...

ReplyDelete@Tessa While your concern for the "protection" of younger viewers is commendable to a certain degree, my inability to shop for a skin is overly prudish. No young person was ever corrupted by the sight of their own body, and "welded on" underwear (i.e. skins which have underwear incorporated) will not make your grid any more wholesome than any other.
ReplyDeleteYou are, of course, in a position to do exactly what you want with your own grid, but my personal irritation at not being able to form my avatar as I want will, in my opinion, be a serious handicap to wider, experienced group of content creators adopting your grid as an alternative home.
I do have serious doubts about your ideas on sex and young people, I would say that the LAST place on the web that youth would come to be titillated is a 3D grid... and buying a skin is unlikely to corrupt anyone as every person, young and old,has one in RL with all the genitalia they could possibly require.
I do wish you well.
