Juanita Deharo

There are few who understand that SL is a medium.

Those who do understand this, and who are artists have the possibility of creating SL Art. Those who don't import dodgy photos of roses to cover 'gallery' walls or slap poor moving textures on a few badly composed prims or tell third-rate stories to cover up the fact that they haven't understood.

Juanita is one of our best artists. She is talented in both worlds, and is continually trying to push, stretch and cajole pixels in different, sometimes new ways. So anything Juanita has put her name to is well worth checking out.

After a recent trip to Bali she has put together a collage/installation at Arte Libera which opens on the 14th (tomorrow/Wednesday) at 2pm. I would recommend you visit.

She says of her piece.... "This is a sort of photo album of my very recent impressions of Bali, as if they were just pasted into the album at the end of the trip with the contemplation and realization and the memory yet to come. Just impressions and notes.

To look with an artist’s eye at a country that is not your own, to draw and write, to look through the lens of a camera at lives and cultures that are not your own, is a humbling and sometimes frightening experience. One sees things not seen from the comfort of the lounge by the resort pool.

The Bali I know is not the holiday haven serviced by stores selling cheap souvenirs to tourists, but a place where the people and the country struggle daily to accommodate great stresses of change, where tradition dominates, despite the imposition of western influences, where religion and superstition are not only a backstay and a comfort, but also a prison and a system that keeps the populace firmly held in place."

It's called Holiday Snaps.

The Book, Virtual Treeline by Juanita Delaro

Juanita has put together a book of images from her shows at Virtual Treeline Galleries, and, of course, I am happy to see my Oak on the front cover....

I look forward to seeing 'it in the flesh', and it will be interesting to see what sort of reviews it gets.

Best of luck, Juanita.

The Best of Soror

soo....a new show, thanks to Juanita of Virtual Treeline Galleries.

I have set out some of my newer work along with some very early stuff, like my first prim and my first flower, and tried to put these things alongside my most recent textures, trees, flowers and prims. The Best of Soror, like a compilation CD....:)))

It's really to show an outline of what I have been up to for the last three years......... not only of personal interest cos I think it shows what new builders can do if they keep at something and develop it.......hehhehe.... funny to see my first sculptie, it's really crap, but I have also a shelf of my best ones too.

I have also shown some of the stages in my search for the ultimate low prim tree, a sort of chronological arrangement of my flowers and my most recent textures.

There are some very old trees upstairs, including the 4th Ancient One, alongside The Bubble Tree which is my 94th Ancient, and downstairs is my very latest tree...called "Tree Sisters", the 95th Ancient One.

Anyway....the show starts at 2 PM SLT Sunday, 21st March at The Virtual Treeline Gallery...

Virtual Treeline is an interesting project and one worth supporting, you can read a bit about it here or talk to Juanita Deharo, who is a very good artist and an all-round Good Egg.

Do pop over if you have time, it's next to Alizarin Goldflake's place where we had a great party last night to celebrate her new gallery ....the layout is very cool and the sort of thing I love to see....room to cam around and plenty of space given to her lovely pieces.

Colemarie Soleil played live last night and unfortunately the sim was full and it was my bed time..... no suprise here, then.... she's such a popular person as well as having a great voice.

Ah well, let's hope you do this more frequently Colie....
